CG Society art

So here is a new character I came up with on the weekend. He is a character for my worm story/project that I'm creating for the CG Society contest. This is the characters final design. Any crits are welcome. I wanted to design this kid who might be wearing his dads fishing boots and look a little discombobulated, but just really happy to dress up and have his pole and tackle box.

Random sketching

So here is a character that I came up with as I was scribbling. It kind of manifested itself from my scribbles and I cleaned it up a bit and added some color.

My gnome is currently in the process of unwrapping UV's. I had made some changes to him. Originally I was designing him to be able to squash and strech...I think I'm going to leave that out now...I'll still apply squash and stretch to tad...but I will be treating the gnome with a little more realism...however, I'll still be using the techniques in Jason Osipas book to create a variety of great facial animation.

Other than that...I had been rethinking my project with the worm and I think I just came up with an idea that I like a lot and will fall more into the catagory of Strange Behavior.

Expect some updates soon regarding all three. For now enjoy this new bizarre creature sketch I did. I envisioned the blue part of the crown to kind of glow on the backside and the stuff at the top of the crown is some kind of cottage cheese/organic substance the creature is constantly producing and pumping out of the top. Kinda weird. Anyway, he was fun to draw.

CG Society Challenge

So here is an early concept sketch. I've entered the latest CG Society challange called, "Strange Behavior". I've entered both the Illustration Challenge as well as the Animation Challenge. Obviously my story will involve a worm. The worm story is part of the Animation Challenge. These are just four drawings of worms facial expressions. The design of the character is still early and will probably shift a bit here and there.

Fun with a prop

So this bottle is a prop for my film with the Gnome. I thought I'd throw in a background and some text to make it look like a magazine add just for fun. In the film the bottle with be the only thing in this shot that is used. I'm not looking for hyper realistic glass...I'm trying to hit a middle ground where it looks like glass but won't be a render hog.

I'm currently modeling the teeth for the gnome...once that's done I will be unwrapping UV's.

Grim Fetch is completely done. Now I'm in the process of making a press kit for the film. I'll be applying to festivals hopefully by tomorrow or atleast by monday. I'll post which festivals and if/when it get's accepted somewhere.

Ready for his close up!

Here he is. This is my gnome for my next film/project. This is just the model. He is missing his beard and eyebrows and hair on his head. I'm planning on rendering in Mental Ray but I've been reading up on paint fx and MR (Mental Ray) and apparently paint fx do not render in MR. And I've been experimenting with depth maps in the renders...but MR doesn't seem to function well with the depth map renders. I'll have to keep experimenting and figure out what I'll be doing.
Now that the gnome is modeled I think I will start on the environment...perhaps...not sure yet. I do have another character in the Gnome story I could model as well.

In regards to posts, I've been a bit behind...but for good reasons. I've been very busy with co-writing on a project called Dark Winter with some friends. I've also been assisting a friend with his personal stop motion film...both of which are great experiences.

Outside of these two projects I'm working on Tad and my Gnome. I also just entered CG Societies lates Challenge; "Strange Behaviours and Relationships"...seems to be a great topic. Looking forward to creating some fun artwork for that.

A big PLUS...Grim Fetch is officially completed. The soundtrack was composed and performed by Rebecca Norris. Now I can start the last step, submitting my film to festivals which I've been looking forward to for a very long time. I'll update with any news on festivals and places Grim Fetch will be screening.

Crits and comments on the gnome are welcome.
